Native-Somali Friendship Play Project – Begins June 7, 2012
New Native Theatre is teaming up with the Native-Somali Friendship Committee, and Bedlam Theatre to produce a community created play in the spring of 2013.
We are beginning this year long process this Thursday with a simple activity: walking. Our first event is walking together as a group, Native and Somali community members from the Franklin Avenue Library, 1314 E. Franklin Avenue, to the E. Phillips Community Center, 2323 11th Avenue S.,Thursday, June 7, 12noon to 1:30pm.
That’s it. A simple walk. This will kick off weekly walks, field trips, and exchanges with one another over the course of the summer. We are asking you to come out this Thursday and walk with us.
Meet at the Franklin Library at 12noon. Please email or call to let us know you plan to participate. We hope to have as many Native community members involved as Somali, so please show your support this Thursday.
Throughout the summer we hope to see womens, mens, elders, and youth groups created that will have field trips and exchanges with one another like beading/henna, or arts, poetry, history, Powwows and the Somali Independence Day, and much more.
